School children near to HS2’s Old Oak Common site in West London have a new learning space, thanks to several contractors. A revamped bus has been fitted out to create an exciting, vibrant space for them. It’s just been opened by local MP Andy Slaughter.

Costain-Skanska Joint Venture, who are delivering the HS2 Enabling Works programme in London, joined up with their supply chain to overhaul the bus, which was donated by RATP Dev London.

Visually, the bus has been completely revamped with a wrapping which has decorated the bus in a ‘bubble and squeak’ style, designed by the school. Astroturf has been used in part on the floor and walls, adding to the sensory experience of the environment.

Harry Haley, London Contracts Manager, said:

We would like to congratulate Charlie Hannon from our London Office on receiving Operative of The Month at Balfour Beatty Curzon Street project.

The certificate was presented to Charlie by Jimmy Brown, Site Manager from Balfour Beatty.

In recognition of our employee Mark Smith who sadly passed away back in May 2021, the London office is taking part in this year’s Nuclear race in Brentwood on 6^th November 2021 – https://nuclear-races.co.uk/

Mark Smith was well known and well respected within the Wingate family, his passing was a shock to all and a reminder how precious life is.

He dedicated his life to his family, job and helping others.

Wingate would like to welcome some of our apprentices to the London region. Below our regional director Darren Borg welcomes seven new members to the Wingate team.

Wingate recruit apprentices personally, at ages from under 18’s to adult trainees up to 23yrs of age. We support all new apprentices throughout their journey to becoming qualified electricians and plumbers. We have supported apprentices young and old for 45  years and will continue to do so.

Wingate recently held an IIF Behavioural Safety Session which included welcoming our 3 new Electrical Apprentices – Flynn Duncan, Charlie Woodham and Daryl Murphy – to our London team.

A big thank you to the Construction Skills Centre for the use of their excellent facilities at Elephant Park.

Thanks also to Lend Lease for allowing this to happen and in particular to Frankie Brown (Manager Lend Lease) for taking time out to speak to our new wide-eyed apprentices, giving them an insight into the industry from a different perspective.

On 19th August, Wingate were awarded the Charity Champions 2019 Certificate in recognition of our fundraising to the Lighthouse Club.

The charity’s primary purpose is to provide financial and welfare support to construction workers and their families who have suffered hardship as a consequence of accident, illness or bereavement.

Wingate have worked with Lend Lease on the Elephant and Castle Development since 2012 carrying out the Temporary Site Services.

In support of Lend Lease’s Section 106 commitments to Southwark Council we have employed an apprentice from the local area each year.

We currently have 2 No. residents who have developed into Fully JIB Graded Electricians and 4 No. Apprentices at various stages of there apprenticeships.

Our commitment to training and the development of youth enhances Lend Lease’s commitment to the local community and they have acknowledged this with an Achievement and Recognition Award.

We have recently opened our new Avonmouth offices ensuring that our services can now be provided across the West Country from a more central location.
