COMPANY HISTORY

Ray Frewin, retired Chairman and founder of Wingate Electrical Plc, started the company in June 1973. Initially working from home in Basingstoke, he was assisted and supported by his wife Teresa.

Rapid expansion required a move to business premises. They chose offices and warehouse facilities in Armstrong Road, Basingstoke (see photo above). The size of these premises signalled Ray and Teresa’s intent and helped shape their Electrical Contracting Company.

Subsequent moves to Hook in Hampshire, and then to the current Head Office in Rutherford Road, Basingstoke, took place as the company expanded nationwide to include regional offices in Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, London, Aberdeen, Ashford (Middlesex) and Basingstoke.

Throughout this period of growth Ray worked very closely with his son, Paul. When Ray retired in September 1998, Paul took on his father’s role.

As Managing Director and majority shareholder, Paul Frewin has guided the company to a turnover which exceeded £30 million by 2010. He has overseen the development and expansion of the company, including the ‘Construction Site Services’ division, which is now the largest of its kind in the UK.

Over the years, many landmark high profile projects have been completed throughout the UK, thanks to the loyal clients who continue to trust their projects to the company.

This success story is a testament to the culture of innovation and customer service that Ray and Teresa built into the company from the beginning, and which has served Wingate so well.
